When you arrive in Portugal (especially if your Portuguese is basic or non existent) you should source a copy of Welcome magazine. This free of charge magazine has details of medics, dentists etc and the telephone numbers of the local hospitals. It also details English speaking medics.

As general rule most hospitals can handle the less serious medial problems and Faro and Portim�o have proper emergency departments.

If your Portuguese is very basic, you might prefer to locate English-speaking doctors.

Pharmacies

Chemists are usually open most of the day. Apart from shutting for siesta time they are usually open between 9pm and 7pm.

They often have the details of 'after hours' dispensaries in the area in case you need some medication in a minor emergency.
